Buying tobacco in Gungahlin: delivery, rules and checks

Gungahlin is Canberra’s northern growth district, with new suburbs where address detail matters as much as freight speed.
| Check | What to expect |
|---|---|
| State rule | ACT — tobacco retail licensing required |
| Typical delivery | 1–2 business days from eastern-state warehouses |
| Age check | Adult signature and ID at the door |
| Pack sizes | Sealed packs of 20 or more; singles illegal |
Delivering to Gungahlin
Gungahlin orders arrive quickly — typically 1–2 business days — but newer streets occasionally trip courier mapping, so give the complete address including unit and street type. ACT licensing and age-verification rules apply as everywhere in the territory.
New-district delivery tips
- Full address detail prevents a mis-sorted parcel.
- Someone 18+ at the door with ID available.
- ACT rules: licensed retail, age verification, sealed packs.
Before you order — four checks that never change
- Price against the excise floor. Duty is $1.55274 a stick from 1 September 2026 — about $31 in a 20-pack and $310 in a carton. New suburbs fail on address data, not distance.
- The pack in the photo. Legal Australian stock is drab brown (Pantone 448C) with graphic warnings covering at least 75% of the front and 90% of the back — no logos, no brand artwork.
- Age and delivery. Distance sellers must verify you are 18 or over, and somebody who can sign and show ID has to be at the address. Lockers and unstaffed addresses can be refused.
- State rules. South Australia prohibits mail and online tobacco orders outright; everywhere else requires an age-verification system.
