Cigarettes on the Gold Coast: ordering tobacco to Queensland’s south-east

Smoke Mart Australia graphic: Buying tobacco on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is one of the easiest places in the country to receive a tobacco parcel: short freight lanes from Brisbane and Sydney, dense courier coverage and quick metro-equivalent windows. The rules are Queensland’s: age verification, adult receipt, compliant stock.

Check What to expect
State rule Queensland — health-law regulation, no retail licence
Typical delivery 1–2 business days once shipped
Handover Adult signature expected
Pack sizes Sealed packs of 20 or more

Why fast delivery still needs planning

Short windows are only useful if someone is home; a failed attempt still goes back to the depot and adds a day. If you work away from home, a workplace address — where reception can sign and check ID — is often the better choice, provided your employer permits it.

The compliance basics

Named operator with an ABN, plain-pack photos, duty-floor pricing and a GST invoice. Those four checks take two minutes and catch nearly every problem seller.

Before you order — four checks that never change

  1. Price against the excise floor. Duty is $1.55274 a stick from 1 September 2026 — about $31 in a 20-pack and $310 in a carton. Easy delivery is not a substitute for the price check — the duty floor applies on the coast too.
  2. The pack in the photo. Legal Australian stock is drab brown (Pantone 448C) with graphic warnings covering at least 75% of the front and 90% of the back — no logos, no brand artwork.
  3. Age and delivery. Distance sellers must verify you are 18 or over, and somebody who can sign and show ID has to be at the address. Lockers and unstaffed addresses can be refused.
  4. State rules. South Australia prohibits mail and online tobacco orders outright; everywhere else requires an age-verification system.
