Esse cigarettes in Australia: the slim and super-slim specialist

Smoke Mart Australia graphic: Esse: slims done properly

Esse is a Korean brand (KT&G) that built its following on slim and super-slim formats rather than on a heavy blend. In Australia it is stocked for smokers who want a light, thin-format cigarette, including menthol and capsule variants.

Slims: what changes, what does not

Super-slims contain less tobacco and pull differently. What they do not do is reduce the harm of smoking — the format is a preference, not a health feature, regardless of how the pack positions it.

Menthol and capsule variants in the range

Menthol flavour can be blended through the tobacco or delivered by a crushable capsule in the filter. The difference shows up in whether the flavour is consistent across the pack (blended) or something you activate (capsule).

Why slims attract fakes

Popular slim brands sell in volume, which makes them attractive to counterfeiters and grey-market importers. The test is unchanged: duty in a carton is about $310, so any carton far below that is a problem.

Before you order — four checks that never change

  1. Price against the excise floor. Duty is $1.55274 a stick from 1 September 2026 — about $31 in a 20-pack and $310 in a carton. Slim format does not lower the duty: every stick, thin or fat, carries the same $1.55274.
  2. The pack in the photo. Legal Australian stock is drab brown (Pantone 448C) with graphic warnings covering at least 75% of the front and 90% of the back — no logos, no brand artwork.
  3. Age and delivery. Distance sellers must verify you are 18 or over, and somebody who can sign and show ID has to be at the address. Lockers and unstaffed addresses can be refused.
  4. State rules. South Australia prohibits mail and online tobacco orders outright; everywhere else requires an age-verification system.
