Best menthol cigarettes in Australia: cooling strength explained

Menthol products differ in three ways that actually matter to a smoker: how intense the cooling is, whether the flavour is blended through the tobacco or delivered by a capsule, and the format of the cigarette itself.
| Check | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Variable | Options |
| Flavour delivery | Blended through tobacco, or capsule in the filter |
| Cooling intensity | From light mint to strong menthol ice |
| Capsules | Single or dual, for per-cigarette control |
| Format | King size, slim or super slim |
Blended vs capsule menthol
Blended menthol tastes the same in every stick. A capsule lets you choose per cigarette — plain, flavoured, or (with two capsules) a combination. Neither is “lighter”; both are flavour options.
A note health authorities make
Menthol’s cooling effect makes smoke feel smoother, which is why flavoured products are treated as a concern rather than a benefit by public health agencies. The flavour does not reduce harm.
Before you order — four checks that never change
- Price against the excise floor. Duty is $1.55274 a stick from 1 September 2026 — about $31 in a 20-pack and $310 in a carton. Cooling strength is a preference scale, not a risk scale.
- The pack in the photo. Legal Australian stock is drab brown (Pantone 448C) with graphic warnings covering at least 75% of the front and 90% of the back — no logos, no brand artwork.
- Age and delivery. Distance sellers must verify you are 18 or over, and somebody who can sign and show ID has to be at the address. Lockers and unstaffed addresses can be refused.
- State rules. South Australia prohibits mail and online tobacco orders outright; everywhere else requires an age-verification system.
