555’s blend and flavour profile: what a balanced Virginia blend actually means

Smoke Mart Australia graphic: 555 blend explained

Blend language is vague until you translate it: a balanced blend means no single leaf character dominates, so the smoke reads as smooth rather than sharp or heavy. 555 built its following on that profile, particularly across Asian markets.

Check What to expect
Blend term What it means in a smoke
Virginia-dominant Bright, slightly sweet, grassy character
Balanced / mild No dominant note; smooth through the cigarette
Full-bodied Heavier tobacco character, more presence
Halfzware Virginia plus darker, air-cured leaf — earthier

Why blends differ between markets

Leaf availability and local taste shape blends, so a brand’s character can shift from one country to another. Australian stock is a domestic product line even when the name is international, packaged and taxed under local rules.

Comparing by character, not claim

Match your current number and format, then decide whether you want a fuller, balanced or milder character. Format comes first because it changes the draw more than most blend differences do.

Before you order — four checks that never change

  1. Price against the excise floor. Duty is $1.55274 a stick from 1 September 2026 — about $31 in a 20-pack and $310 in a carton. Blend language describes taste; the number on the pack is not a strength rating.
  2. The pack in the photo. Legal Australian stock is drab brown (Pantone 448C) with graphic warnings covering at least 75% of the front and 90% of the back — no logos, no brand artwork.
  3. Age and delivery. Distance sellers must verify you are 18 or over, and somebody who can sign and show ID has to be at the address. Lockers and unstaffed addresses can be refused.
  4. State rules. South Australia prohibits mail and online tobacco orders outright; everywhere else requires an age-verification system.
